Loved the website and found it very nostalgic. I was a camper and councilor for 11 years from 1951-1961.I have wonderful memories from those years and my closest friend and I met at camp in 1961.
Keep up the good work.
BTW I think my name is still on plaques in the social hall!

I was a camper from '47-'52 and worked in the hotel in '56 and '57 as an office boy and luggage boy for the parents. I don't remember when Mr Supnick and Mr Bick passed away but i remember Mrs. Supnick as she was a quest at the hotel or more correctly living in her private house near the upper baseball field. One guests were Mr and Mrs Larry Weiner, who also had a house near the field. I don't know what Mr Weiner for a living, but either the first or second summer , he arranged for the camps to see the movie Mighty Joe Young before it hit Broadway. They also supported the carnival held I think the 5th week. ( In those days camp was 8 weeks.) I remember the first trip to camp. We met at a pier in NYC, took the ferry to Hoboken climbed up onto a special private train and left for Honesdale where school buses took us to camp. After that my folks drove me to camp. As a office boy I made some tips a carrying the luggage. One summer, a quest asked me to drive around the US in the following Fall, but I choose to start college instead. I sometimes that was a mistake. I was not a good athlete but do remember learning to play baseball and basketball. Even though I was 6'7" and made a mistake and did not become a better play. Maybe I would have made the NBA. That's all folks. Would like to hear from of those I went to camp with.

I was a JC at Equinunk in summers of 71, 72 on the waterfront. The names you mentioned Seal brought it all back.
I have visited the camp in the last month and was saddened to hear that many had passed. Especially shocked about Steven Gelobter who was about my age.
My waterfront buddies were Bump Dearing, Dave Birkowitz and I recall one camper Lennie Shoob, a great swimmer and his mom and dad, Shiela and Don whom I visited in Merrick in 1977.

I went to Blue Ridge for 12 years. I remember fondly that the last night of camp, we would go down to the lake, and the "year" would be on fire and glide across the lake. I am trying to replicate that for my daughters wedding, but I cant find any photos. Would you be able to email me a photo?
Thanks

Very emotional to hear about the passing of Steven Gelobter who I got to know over 45 years ago when i started to work at camp Equinunk as a counselor when I came from Tampa Florida and was attending college back then. my name at that time was Steven Weichselbam but when I came to camp I was given the nickname SEAL and besides being a counselor I was also the Archery specialist. I worked at camp for about 4 years and was even the Red Color war chief back in 1973. Some of my best times during those summers was being around so many great counselors and enjoying my times with Steven Gelobter and the rest of the Equinunk family. I really used to love my days off when I either went to Skinners Falls or Monticello on my days off with a few of the other counselors too. I always enjoyed the Parent/ counselor softball games we had and was even better when I became one of the first players to hit a H.R. into the tennis courts and play the HILL in left field like no one else could. I can even remember another great moment when i actually took 2 days off in a row and went to the great WOODSTOCK concert that was in near us back in the day! That was a concert that is still is and always be one of the great moments in music history. I really miss those camp days and miss seeing Steven because we always kidded around and he was such a great part of camp life for me and I shall always be grateful for the good times I had with Steven while I was at Equinunk. Besides Steven there were some other people that had a great influence on me when I first came there such as Bernie Strauss. Marty Gelobter, Henny Goldman(Blue Hen) Barry Shimpkin and many other great counseors who made camp Equinunk one of the best camps around and I will always remember Steven and the great times we had at camp back in the day. To anyone who remembers me ( The Seal) hope you all are well and MISS YOU ALL! Steven West alias SEAL Weichselbaum

Steve, MCW, my friend...it is impossible to fathom that you are no longer with us. I've known you for 50 years, and shared many laughs, talks, and even crys together. You were the core of who we are at camp, and gave each of us something so special that is the envy of everone on the outside. You cared for everyone, and everyone cared for you. Lidia, Evan, Dylan and Giselle, never leave us, we are still your family.
